With less than 200 days to go until the start of the biggest sports event this country has ever seen, excitement is building! The London Borough of Sutton, with partners, set up Team Sutton to promote sporting, cultural and personal achievement in celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 and beyond.

Sports Awards
Sutton Council have teamed up with Sutton Guardian, Sutton Sports Council and other local partners and businesses to launch these Awards which recognise the achievements of local sports people, groups, schools and clubs in Sutton over the last 12 months.
This is your opportunity, in the year of the London 2012 Olympics, to nominate and vote for your local sporting hero or heroine, and give them the recognition that they deserve! To find out more click here.
Sutton Launches Cultural Awards
As part of Sutton’s commitment to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, an annual Cultural Award Programme has been established to acknowledge those individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the cultural life of the Borough.
A panel of leading citizens, familiar with the cultural activity in the borough and under the Chairmanship of the Mayor, will be reviewing and choosing eight projects, events, people or groups that they believe have made a significant contribution from a community standpoint over the past year.

Sutton Tennis Academy Duty Officer Becomes Olympic Arena Record Holder
Sutton athlete, Paskar Owor, who works at Sutton Tennis Academy, is the first holder of the Olympic Arena Record for the 5,000 metres, winning Gold at the British University and Colleges Sport Outdoor Athletics Championships. Taking place over the May Bank Holiday weekend, the Championships were the test event for the London 2012 track and field programme. Read more about his success here.
